Eco-friendly Wallpaper

Nature has always been, and continues to be, a constant source of inspiration for artists and designers throughout time. Many of the designs in the V&A Decorative Papers Collection draw on the beauty of nature and the human desire to bring the outdoors in.

The Floral Fanfare design, by Arts and Crafts artist George Charles Haité, who advocated design that stylised nature, transforms the flowers and foliage into a series of formal, symmetrical shapes. Preserving the beauty of nature and the environment around us is crucial today and opting for eco-friendly products for our homes is more important than ever.

Sustainability is key for 1838 and we are always striving to make our wallpapers as environmentally conscious as possible. V&A Decorative Papers is our most eco-friendly collection to date and designs are printed on a new, high quality, eco non-woven substrate, 79% of which is made up of natural, renewable fibres.

59% are cellulose (wood pulp) fibres from FSC® certified forests (C119803) and other controlled sources and 20% are PLA (plant derived thermoplastic) fibres from the naturally occurring sugars in sugar beet and corn. There are no oil-based polyester fibres used and the remaining 21% is a made up of a water-based latex binder. All the printing inks are water based, non-toxic and free from VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) so these wallpapers are a reassuring, eco-friendly choice for home decoration.
